Try A Dive

Is diving something that you’ve always thought about doing? Would you like to give it a go, but don’t know if it’s really for you and are worried about signing up for a course when you don’t know what it involves? If so, then a PADI Discover Scuba Dive® experience (sometimes called a ‘try dive’) is just what you need!

What is Discover Scuba Diving?

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience (or ‘DSD’) is a chance to see what diving is all about without having to commit to a full certification course, to see if you enjoy it.

What is it like to breathe underwater?

How does it feel to float like an astronaut in space, free from the effects of gravity and controlling your motion only through the breaths you take?

Diving is probably incomparable to anything else you’ve ever done… but you have to jump in to experience it for yourself. And as every great adventure starts with a single step, what better time is there to take it than while on holiday here in Skiathos, in the crystal-clear water of the Aegean Sea

A Discover Scuba Dive (DSD) is an introductory scuba diving experience (lasting about 3 hours in total) that is specially designed for people who have little or no prior scuba diving experience. It’s a program we offer to give you a taste of what scuba diving is really like.

During the Discover Scuba Diving experience our certified instructor will explain the basics of scuba gear and how to use it, and give you an easy introduction to the essential information you’ll need to safely get into the water. After the briefing, we’ll take you by boat to a safe and relatively shallow confined water area where we practice some basic scuba skills. Once you are comfortable and have got the hang of things, you’ll have the opportunity to experience a shallow open water dive as we explore the underwater world and meet some of the locals.

In accordance with PADI training and safety standards, participants are taken in small groups and are closely supervised by the instructor at all times.

It’s important to note that a Discover Scuba Dive does not result in a scuba certification. It’s a standalone experience intended to provide a glimpse into the underwater world and help participants decide if they want to pursue further scuba training. And, of course, it’s a lot of fun! Those that decide they want to continue the adventure and become certified scuba divers then need to enrol in a formal scuba diving certification course, such as the PADI Open Water Diver course (although the programme that Dolphin Diving Centre conducts can be used as a credit towards completion of the full course, either with us or with another authorised PADI dive centre anywhere in the world).

To participate in a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, you must be at least 12 years old. No prior experience of diving is necessary, but you should be comfortable in the water and be in reasonable physical health. You will be required to complete a Medical Questionnaire and Liability Release.
